WAAY 31, in Huntsville, AL, is looking for a dynamic Anchor with a passion for journalism, holding the powerful accountable and telling stories that make a difference in our community. This is an excellent opportunity for a journalist ready for the next step in their career. This is a position of leadership in the newsroom and requires the ability to coach and be coached.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of delivering breaking news in an urgent manner, breaking big stories, cultivating sources and a newsroom leader. If you just want to read scripts or repeat what police tell you, this is not the job for you. You will deliver news from behind the desk and find/report it from the field. This position also provides the freedom to do work that matters in our community. But bring your boots because this is hard and important work.
If you need a flexible work-life balance, Huntsville, AL is a hidden gem. Rolling mountains surround the city, as do lakes and rivers. We are also home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Space Camp, the US Army’s Aviation and Missile command and the second largest research park in the country. If you like to travel, Nashville is a two-hour drive and Atlanta is a little more than three hours away.
Bachelor degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or equivalent.
2– 4 years’ experience as an Anchor or Reporter with Anchor experience.
Ability to shoot and edit video.
